Members Survey

To make sure The Children's Traffic Club continues to be a successful road safety programme, we often ask parents - who are using the Club material with their 3 and 4 year old children to tell us what they think.

Parents/carers of children who had almost completed their membership with the Club (had just received Book 6, last in the series) were invited to take part in this survey. The aim of the survey was to find what parents and children thought about the material, how they used them, and whether membership of the Club had improved children's road safety knowledge and habits.

Below are the main findings:

Road safety skills and knowledge

99% of parents said that the Club had helped them teach their child road safety
76% of parents said the Club had helped them personally to become more road safety aware
89% of parents who had other children in the household (in addition to the member child) said the Club had also helped them teach road safety to their other children.

Safe habits - Since children became members:

they were more likely to ALWAYS hold hands with their carer when outside
they were more likely to ALWAYS stop when asked by their carer
they were more likely to ALWAYS wear a seatbelt in the car
they were less likely to ever play on or near roads and traffic

Children and the material

100% of children liked the pictures in the books and the stickers
99% of children liked the balloon characters in the books
98% of children liked the stories in the books
97% of children liked the activities in the books
99% of parents thought that the books were suited to their child's abilities, at the time

Parents and the material

100% of parents found the books easy to use
98% of parents found the 'Notes for parents' useful
94% of parents thought the amount of guidance was 'just right' for them and they found the 'Checklists' useful
92% of parents had worked through all or most topics with their child
94% of parents had practised what was learned outside, with their child, at least once a week
75% of parents found the 3-month gap between each book 'just right'.

Parents' overall impression of the Club:

99% of parents said their child had enjoyed being a Club member
98% of parents rated very highly The Children's Traffic Club as a road safety programme
99% would recommend the Club to other parents - 79% would strongly recommend
97% of parents said they had received all books regularly and in good condition
